This picture is of one of my Bristlenose catfish looking after his eggs. He was only small himself at the time, but he did an excellent job of looking after and guarding his eggs. The babies were all healthy and I think all of them survived. He started off in my small community aquarium, but as soon as I realised the eggs had been layed, I was able to move him into his own tank with his partner and eggs. I must say he didn't even try to jump off the eggs, he was totally protective of them. Most bristlenoses act in this way, they are usually very paternal. However I did have one that refused to look after his eggs, but luckily I rescued the eggs and hatched them myself.
The bristlenose in the picture is sadly dead now, but he really was a little star, and so I thought he deserved to be included on my webpage, doing what he did best. When he died he was huge, and the size of his bristles were enormous.
